Ted Worcester was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Ted attended Colorado College, graduating with a B.A. in English in 1962. Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served as a Field Artillery officer for seven years, and was stationed in Korea, Germany and Vietnam as well as the United States. During his service in Vietnam he commanded Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 34th Artillery, part of the 9th Infantry Division, in the Mekong Delta. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with “V” device and First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device and the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters.
After his honorable discharge from the Army as a Major in 1969, Ted attended the University of Colorado School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor on the Law Review. He graduated with a J.D. degree in 1972, and was a member of The Order of the Coif.
Upon graduation, Ted joined the Denver Law firm of Dawson, Nagle, Sherman and Howard (now Sherman and Howard) and practiced natural resources law. He spoke and wrote on natural resources subjects and represented clients with interests throughout the West. In 1990, he left private practice to become General Counsel of Westmoreland Coal Company, a long time client headquartered in Philadelphia. In 1995 Westmoreland moved its corporate headquarters to Colorado Springs. He retired in 2000.
In retirement, Ted remains active in his Church, The Chapel of Our Saviour Episcopal Church. He is also a volunteer docent at the El Paso County Parks Nature Centers and has served as a board member and camp counselor at Trinity Ranch, an Episcopal Church camp in Wetmore, Colorado. In 2004 he was elected to the Board of Directors of Catamount Institute and serves as its treasurer.
Ted is married to Cynthia Nimerichter, who is also very active in the community. He has three children and six grandchildren.
