Description: Education Department

The education department at Catamount Institute coordinates a wide variety of outreach programs to the elementary and middle schools in El Paso and Teller Counties. Current programs consist of Young Environmental Stewards (YES) and Creek Connections. The YES program is an educational and engaging after-school program and summer camp for youth that integrates leadership, ecology, and technology. The program creatively provides the awareness, knowledge, and skills to inspire students to become environmental stewards and leaders in their communities. The overall goal is to empower youth not only make a difference within their communities, but to take accountability and action through service projects and educating others.

YES Educator Assistant
  • Work with the education team to create and design curriculum for the YES program.
  • Support the overall success of the program by documenting the educational processes and activities of the YES program and putting them into lesson plans and written form.
  • Assist with implementing weekly programs in YES classrooms
  • Hours are flexible. At least 3 hours would be preferred.
  • Work will be at the office in Colorado Springs or in local schools and at the Mountain Campus on Pikes Peak.

Creek Connections Educator Assistant
  • assist educator in developing modules for implementation into K-12 classrooms
  • help in weekly classroom and stream side visits
  • must be a people person, responsible, able to touch bugs, and multi-tasker
  • positive thinking is a must

Module Assistant
  • assist in creating environmental games and programs for modules in the education department
  • able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • must be a people person, responsible, able to touch bugs, and multi-tasker
  • positive thinking is a must

Special Events Assistant
  • assist in teacher workshops, special events and/or the annual symposium
  • assist in marketing, program management, and solicitation
  • must be able to meet deadlines, be a team player and also be able to work independently
  • positive thinking is a must

Education Department Administrative Assistant
  • assist in creating modules for the education department
  • assist in creating a living scrapbook for particular programs within the education department
  • assist in updating the education departments portion of the Catamount Institutes website
  • must be a people person, responsible, able to meet tight deadlines, team player and also be able to work independently
  • positive thinking is a must
