Catamount Institute Appoints Executive Director PDF Print E-mail
Kathleen (his wife of 14 years) and Eric have made a conscience commitment to leave the world a better place for their sons Ethan (6) and Jeremy (2). Knowing that being a father is both the best and most important job he will ever have, parenthood has changed his priorities. While Eric values the experiences he has had traveling the world as a corporate executive, he is grateful to now have the opportunity to not only be close to home, but, of equal importance, to provide dynamic leadership for an organization that has the potential to be a world-class leader in the international movement towards environmental responsibility and ecologically sound practices.

Under Eric’s charge, Catamount Institute will lead by example. Immediate plans include enhancing and expanding existing programs to connect with more students and communities. In the long term Eric envisions the development and implementation of programs and projects that will not only benefit the Pikes Peak area, but will also showcase the region as a model for state-of-the-art sustainability principles and applications.

One of Catamount Institute’s greatest, but underused assets is its 177 acre Mountain Campus just outside of Woodland Park in Teller County, CO. Eric will guide the board and staff through a development plan process that will maximize appropriate use of the property. Future construction will naturally be consistent with the Institute’s mission and existing structures will be upgraded to comply with the progressive environmental standards adopted by the board. Ever mindful of an intrinsic responsibility to future generations, Environmental Summits will engage not only local high school students, but youth from around the world who will be given the chance to work together on solutions based analysis of environmental issues.

When asked about strategies to achieve these goals, Eric response was to say, “The philosophy at the heart of the mission of Catamount Institute inspires us to view the world through Nature’s perspective. This perspective informs our direction and policies. Natural systems are inherently self-sustaining; simultaneously complex and elegantly simple- but always rich with solutions.

We are fortunate to have a creative and dedicated professional staff that will expand over time with equally talented people who will help us realize our multi-year business plan. Remarkable volunteers and a hard-working board of directors provide invaluable support to the organization. Combined with a network of like-minded groups and strategic partnerships, Catamount Institute is poised and ready to take a leadership role by designing innovative, results oriented programs and products that are scalable and can be seamlessly integrated into homes, schools, businesses and communities alike. The future looks extremely promising - I am truly honored to have been chosen for this job.”
