It's A Bird, It's A Plane, No.. it’s a Weather Balloon! |

Catamount Institute's Young Environmental Stewards (YES) students
participated in a unique experience learning about and helping with a
weather balloon launch at Colorado College. Students from Ivywild and
Bricker Elementary Schools were taken to Colorado College and
introduced to CC students majoring in Atmospheric Science.
YES students tested their skills helping fill the weather balloon with
helium, attaching the data collector that measured air temperature and
altitude, and then they actually got to release the balloon into the
sky. Looks of amazement and awe filled the faces of the YES students as
the final countdown to launch drew near.
Prior to the weather
balloon launch, YES kids had first-hand experience being in a college
science laboratory and were able to meet with professors while visiting
Colorado College. YES students spent time learning about the "cool"
equipment in Professor Howard Drossman's Environmental Science lab.
Many thanks to the Colorado College professors and students for
providing such a rich and rewarding experience for YES students.
