Dear Friends of Catamount Institute: A leadership transition in the nonprofit sector can be challenging, but it can also provide an exciting and positive opportunity to look carefully at vision, mission and goals for an organization. We are writing to let you know that our talented executive director, Carol Bruce-Fritz, will depart at the end of November to strike out on her own as a consultant. In the interim, we have asked Michael Hannigan, a board member from our affiliate organization, Catamount Center, to serve as a volunteer to smooth the transition to new leadership after Carol’s departure. With every challenge comes opportunity. While it will be difficult to replace Carol’s professionalism, total dedication and passion for our mission, this leadership transition gives us the chance to re-examine every aspect of Catamount—a process that will enable us to create an even more vital, healthy, and sustainable organization for the future. As many of you know, Catamount has experienced significant growth over the past five years. We have come a long way from our humble origins—serving more than 4,300 this year with our environmental education and sustainability programs. Someone famous once said: “The past is history, and the future is a mystery.” We’re doing the best planning we can to create a rich future for our organization. As a board, we are dedicated to creating a relevant, vibrant, and sustainable “Catamount of the future.” This means looking with fresh eyes at our vision, our mission, our goals, and our programs that help us achieve our mission. So what does this mean for you? There is probably no better time for people passionate about the environment to get involved or re-involved with Catamount—as a volunteer, as a donor, or as a participant in one of our excellent programs. Now, more than ever before, we need to inspire ecological stewardship to make our region a better place to live for our children and their children and for generations to come.
